This oversize Antique Bidjar rug reflects a beautiful color palette of persimmon, blue, green, ivory and black. Hand-woven by the Kurds, an Iranian tribe believed to have inhabited the Azerbaijan area since before the age of Christ. The Kurdish lifestyle of today is tremendously varied; from the nomadic mountain shepherd to the village farmer, to the flannel-shirted urban businessman. Yet in each setting the Kurdish women continue to hand-knot rugs as their ancestors have done for many generations, creating antique rugs that vividly portray the tremendous diversity and spirit of independence of the Kurdish people. Very good condition with a clearly detailed design and good pile. 100% wool. A treasure!
